Bermuda – Exploring This Stunning Natural Paradise

by erin on July 18, 2011

Bermuda is a gorgeous island territory of 138 islands and islets. Lauded as one of the most beautiful island locations in the world, it is a very popular spot for beach getaways. People come from all over the world to visit Bermuda’s famous beaches and explore the island’s atmosphere. If you are thinking of heading to Bermuda, you’ll need either a passport book or a passport card.

Passport Card

One of the best things about traveling to Bermuda is being able to use a passport card in lieu of a passport book. A passport card can be used for all travel to Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Canada. However, passport cards are only acceptable if one travels by boat or car; all air travel requires a passport book. Going online is the best place to get either the book or the card, as well as a plethora of other services, like expedited lost passport replacements, passports for children, and more.

St. Gerorge

One very important location is Town of St. George. It is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as the oldest inhabited British colony in the New World, having been founded in 1612. It is a popular stop for vacationers, as features colonial architecture, winding cobblestone streets, pretty little parks, and a lot more, making it a great place to explore after a day at the beach. While you’re there, you’ll definitely want to explore King’s Square, the original public square of Bermuda. In addition, St. George is home to several very important buildings, including churches, museums, old houses, and the Town Hall.

Water Activities

Of course no trip to Bermuda keeps you away from the water. Snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, and fishing are all very popular activities in Bermuda, and there are plenty of breathtaking places to enjoy them. For example, famously beautiful Horseshoe Beach is the most popular beach in Bermuda, and for good reason. Soft pink sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, old caves and coves, and the relaxing atmosphere has earned it this reputation. If you are looking to go a little deeper out in the water, there are handfuls of snorkeling and scuba diving companies that can take you out to shipwrecks, colorful coral reefs, or any other underwater landscape.

Long History

Thanks to its long history, Bermuda is as interesting as it is beautiful. While you’re in Bermuda, be sure to experience a little bit of this history at all the 100-or-so forts and various museums on the islands. The Bermuda Aquarium, Natural History Museum, and Zoo is another good spot to visit. It features the world’s first living coral reef exhibit, that is, a replica coral reef in a 140,000 gallon tank, displaying an actual living and coordinating coral reef community. You’ll find more than 200 species of fish, plenty of birds, seals, turtles, and more in this all-in-one museum.

Numerous Attractions

While there are plenty of attractions in Bermuda, be sure to pause and simply enjoy it’s natural beauty. Perhaps you should avoid straying into the Bermuda Triangle, but many can attest to the beautiful dive spots there, so it might be worth it. Just remember that you’ll need a passport card or passport book. If you’ve misplaced your passport, you can also get expedited lost passport replacement online.
