Frankfurt – Exploring The Engaging City On The Main River

by garrett on August 17, 2011

Although Frankfurt does not compare in size to Germany’s much larger cities, it does hold the special distinction as being the most international city. It’s smaller size also works out in favor of the people who visit, as all the attractions are that much closer. While the skyline may resemble something modern or even futuristic, there are old 19th century buildings to be found in between the skyscrapers. If a city experience with more history attached sounds like your kind of vacation, look into planning a vacation to Frankfurt. Passports are needed for international travel, however, but getting new passports online can help you get on your way.

Get A Passport First

Some people hold an amount of apprehension at the though of purchasing a passport online, which is a good attitude to hold towards online shopping. It’s important to know that the US Department of State itself works in conjunction with online services to help US citizens address last-minute and emergency passport situations. Because of this, they are able to deliver expedited lost passports replacements and more in the shortest time frames possible.

The Römerberg

Immerse yourself in the historical side of Frankfurt by visiting its historical district, the Römerberg. It gets its name from the ancient Roman ruins that lie within its borders, but you will also find many other historical buildings and landmarks, such as the Frankfurter Romer, a building constructed in 1405 to be used as the town hall. The beautiful red-brick St. Paul’s Church is also worth investigating, as are the Gothic-style Wharfinger’s Tower by the Main River, Alte Nikolaikirche, another beautiful church from the 12th century, and an imposing 12th century castle.

Main River

The Main River weaves straight through the center of Frankfurt, and one popular activity is simply taking a walk along its banks. Even though it’s right in the middle of Frankfurt, it retains a peaceful atmosphere. It’s also a great way to experience Frankfurt’s museums, as most of them are located along the river. For some breath-taking bird’s-eye views of the city, head to the top of the 650-foot Main Tower. If you prefer a more natural setting, check out the City Forest. This is a forest located entirely inside the boundaries of Frankfurt, and it features many lakes, walking trails, and more.

The Senckenberg Museum of Natural History

The famous Senckenberg Museum of Natural History is well-known in Frankfurt and is considered one of the most impressive in the entire city. You’ll encounter ancient Egyptian mummies, prehistoric fossils, and a world-class dinosaur exhibit with reconstructed dinosaurs inside its walls. If you are in the mood for a little shopping, head to the “Fifth Avenue of Europe,” the Zeil. The Zeil is Frankfurt’s main shopping street, and is famous throughout Europe. There are also lots of places to eat and relax.

Frankfurt is certainly a city of modern times, but what makes the city so interesting is the deep historical and cultural connection it retains. If your vacation plans are taking you to Frankfurt, get the ball rolling by getting new passports for everyone in your family. Replacements for expedited lost passports can be shipped as quick as you need.
