Spending The Summer In Panama

Panama is one of the most beautiful and interesting locations in all of South America. In fact, it is actually Panama that connects the two portions of North and South America. If you and your family are looking for a great place to travel to this summer season, consider heading down to where North and South America meet to experience the vacation of a lifetime. While in Panama, you will find a plethora of wonderful activities and adventures to take part in. Panama fishing is some of the most famous angling in the entire world, and blue marlin fishing, in particular, is regarded by serious fishermen as some of the most challenging fishing anywhere on the planet.

The Panama Canal

One of the most famous attractions that Panama has to offer is the historic Panama Canal. Both an engineering masterpiece and beautiful landmark, the Panama Canal is one of the most important and strategic waterways in the world. While in Panama, you can visit the Canal and marvel as the massive ships maneuver their way in between the relatively tight waterway as lush, untouched jungle landscapes appear on both sides. The Canal, which is approximately 49 miles long, stretches from Panama City on the Pacific coast to Colon on the Atlantic coast. Every year, nearly 14,000 vessels pass through the Canal. The best vantage point to spend some time viewing the impressive Canal can be found by visiting the Miraflores Locks, which are on the northeastern fringe of Panama City. There, you can enjoy a nice picnic while observing the canal’s daily traffic on one of their many observation platforms.

Botanical Gardens & Zoo

Another wonderful, family-friendly attraction to check out while on vacation in Panama is the Summit Botanical Gardens and Zoo. Founded in 1923, the gardens were opened to help propagate and disseminate tropical plants from around the world and into Panama. The gardens feature more than 15,000 different, exotic plant species. An expanded section of the garden has been reserved as a Zoo, which houses many different interesting animals that visitors can learn about. Perhaps the most interesting animal attraction at the Zoo is the harpy eagle compound. Opened in 1998, the compound was opened with the aspirations that it would serve as a new place for this endangered bird to mate. However, they have not been successful in producing any new, harpy eagle babies. The harpy eagle is the national bird for the country of Panama.

There are countless other attractions and activities that world travelers can enjoy while in Panama. If you are interested in blue marlin fishing while you are there, you are in luck. Panama fishing is considered to be some of the most challenging and exciting fishing in the entire world. If you are interested, or thinking about spending the remainder of your summer vacation in an overseas location, consider all of the wonderful things that the nation of Panama has to offer. You will be sure to find something that peaks your interest in the country that divides North and South America.
