by erin on June 28, 2011

Churning out professional-looking documents is possible with the Brother HL-4050Cdnlt printer since it uses laser technology. It may be shared by a network or hooked up into a single computer, thanks to the multiple connectivity interfaces around. Input media capacity of up to 800 sheets and memory that’s expandable allow the machine to be flexible enough to meet a busy workplace’s changing productivity requirements.

Processor Tasks

Having an NEC VR5500 300 MHz processor inside it, the first page is already out in just 16 to 17 seconds. When handling color tasks, it’s capable of dishing out up to 7 pages a minute. I can also produce 20 pages a minute when handling monochrome types. It comes installed with a 320MB memory. But thanks to the available SO DIMM 144-PIN slot, it may be expanded to 576MB.

Media Types

Supported media types include paper (bond, recycled and plain), envelopes, transparencies and labels. Media sizes supported include executive, legal, letter, B6, B5, A5 and A4. It can also work on custom sizes, from as little as 69.9 mm x 116 mm to as big as 216 mm x 406.4 mm. Available 500-sheet, 250-sheet and 50-sheet (multipurpose) auto-load feeders allow the machine to handle input media amounting to a maximum of 800 sheets.

Monochrome Jobs

A resolution of up to 2400 x 600 dots per inch is used when dealing with color and monochrome jobs. This feature makes it possible for the machine to churn out clean-looking text and images with photo-realistic quality. Documents, whether for home or office use, end up looking professionally done since it employs laser technology.

Integrated Duplex

Printing on both sides of the paper is possible, thanks to the integrated duplex feature. This spares the user from manually flipping the pages, so both time and energy are conserved, as well as paper supplies. PostScript 3 and PCL 6 printer languages installed yield 66 PostScript, 66 scalable, 12 bitmapped and 13 barcode fonts. Such allows the machine to print documents that contain a variety of font faces.

Direct Printing

There are two ways to plug this machine into a single computer. One is via the parallel IEEE 1284 port and the other via the hi-speed port. Another USB port is available for direct printing. You can plug into a USB flash memory, hard disk drive or a digital camera with PictBridge capability so you may directly print documents or photos found in them. Ethernet 100Base-TX/1000Base-TX port around makes it trouble-free to be used within a network.

Toner Cartridges

Already included in the box are the toner cartridges. The black cartridge is capable of printing up to 2500 pages (at 5 percent coverage). On the other hand, the cyan, yellow and magenta cartridges can yield up to 1500 pages. Also included with the purchase are the transmission belt, drum and waste toner collector.

Display Panel

Found on the left of the top panel of the Brother HL-4050Cdnlt printer are well-laid out buttons and status display panel for hassle-free operation. It comes with a 41.9 cm (width) x 45.2 cm (height) x 47.5 (depth) form factor, and it tips the scale at 35.7 kg. This machine is suited for installation in a busy workplace, thanks to the multiple connectivity interfaces, uses toner cartridges, and large and versatile media handling capability.
