Bermuda – Gorgeous Beaches, Exciting Attractions, One-Of-A-Kind Culture

by erin on December 28, 2010

True island paradises are becoming increasingly difficult to find lately. There are plenty of places with beautiful beaches, but the overly touristy atmosphere only serves to detract from the true meaning of a vacation. Bermuda is an island in the Atlantic Ocean that still holds tight to its laid-back island attitude. The entire “island” is comprised 138 islands and islets, with plenty of water and natural places to explore. If you are thinking about traveling to Bermuda, you will need either a passport or a passport card. Online passport expediting services can help you discover how to get a passport fast.

Travel to Bermuda allows for the use of a passport card over a passport, but only if you travel by sea. Air travel still requires the use of a valid passport book. Passport cards are much cheaper than the book, so people will often take a cruise to Bermuda to save the money.

Bermuda is known for it’s beautiful pink sand beaches. And with these beaches comes the crystal clear turquoise waters that boast seemingly endless visibility. So, as you can expect, swimming, snorkeling, and diving are the most popular activities to do on the island, and there is no shortage of places to do them. Look for Humpback Whales in April and May, as they swim past the island on their yearly migration. There are also plenty of dolphins and fish, as well as tropical birds in the air.

Horseshoe Bay is regarded as one of the best beaches on the island, but Tobacco Bay, Achilles Bay, and Chaplin Bay are popular as well. You really can’t choose a bad beach, but it doesn’t hurt to ask a local for their opinion.

A good place to start your adventure on the island is the Bermuda Aquarium, Natural History Museum & Zoo. This complex covers the natural development of the island over the course of time. It also is home to the North Rock Tank. This giant tank holds 140,000 gallons of water and houses an actual living coral reef. If you learn a little bit here, you should have no issues identifying them for yourself when you go out into the water.

If you are thinking a horseback ride would be perfect along the beaches of Bermuda, head to the Spicelands Riding Centre. Try to go during sunrise or sunset to get the best possible experience. If you want to try something a little different, visit the Crystal and Fantasy Caves of Bermuda. These caves are naturally formed from the island’s limestone, and feature impossibly clear water. The Royal Naval Dockyard is another popular attraction the island. This is where you can find the British Maritime Museum. The lighthouses are other popular places to visit as well.

If Bermuda sounds like the sort of island paradise you are looking for, start your adventure by getting your passport or passport card. You can find services that can get you passport renewals, and once this is done, your island vacation can get started.
