An emergency passport replacement can be done on the same day if you know how. People travel all the time and some do it for urgent reasons. However, it often happens that as the date of travel looms, they find out that their traveling documents are either invalid, cannot be found, are about to expire, or have expired already. Replacement Passport
The Department of State only says that a process for getting a replacement exists for those who need to travel in less than two weeks. This transaction is faster than an expedited application. Those who were able to get a same day replacement succeeded because they had an acceptable reason for doing so. A plane ticket with an impending departure date is an acceptable reason. The death or sickness of a loved one abroad is also an acceptable reason.
Three Forms
There are three forms that have to be filled out depending on the circumstances behind the application. Those who will be replacing an invalid document will have to fill out form DS-11. It is a rule that an invalid document requires its owner to apply for a new one. A certified copy of your birth certificate needs to be attached.
Report Loss
A passport that has been stolen or lost can be replaced by filling out two forms. The first form is to report the loss or theft of the document, which is DS-64. The other document is Form DS-11. A certified birth certificate is also required in this situation.
Expired Document
An expired document or a one that is about to expire can be replaced by filling out form DS-82. Your old papers will be your proof of identity and citizenship. A passport that was issued when you were less than 16 years old and has expired cannot be renewed. Owners of such a document will need to apply for a new one.
Processing Center
Finally, when you are able talk to someone at the processing center, you will be told what regional center to go and when to appear. In most cases you can get a next day appointment. If not, you can always call again because there are people who cancel their slots. You can then get their allotted time.
Appointment Time
Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. When it is your turn, hand in your documents and explain why you need an emergency replacement. If your application is accepted, you will be made to wait. Most processing centers are able to make a replacement in less than half a day. This means that you will get your papers on the same day if you came in early.
Lost Opportunities
Getting an emergency passport replacement is not that difficult. Apparently, a lot of people have already done it. While it actually costs more than the regular or passport renewal application, it is still very cheap compared to your cancelled ticket if you cannot make your flight. The cost of a replacing one is very small compared to the lost opportunities in a business trip.
