Kyocera FS-3800D Toner – Cutting Edge Technology

KYOTK60_1_1.JPGFor several years over the past decade, the Kyocera FS-3800D printer was the epitome of the office printer that maximized quality while minimizing cost and environmental impact. Currently, this printer is being retired, yet despite its “end of life”, the FS-3800D printer using Kyocera FS-3800D toner is well worth the investment.

This Kyocera printer is a black and white laser printer that is network friendly. It is designed to efficiently use resources while reducing operational costs and the environmental impact. The drum has a long life (300,000 prints) and the Kyocera FS-3800D toner cartridges are recyclable. The FS-3800D has 16 MB of memory and operates with a 200 MHz Power PC 740 processor. Its resolution ranges from 1,200 x 1,200 dpi to 2,400 x 600 dpi and it utilizes image enhancers that help produce blacks that are rich, edges that are crisp, and halftones that are finely detailed.

The FS-3800D is quick for its time: it prints 25 ppm (pages per minute). It does this by processing the entire file then storing it as an image in the RAM so that it can print the document at full speed. It is Energy Star compliant which means that when not printing the machine will shut itself down. PC (Windows 2000 or higher), Mac, UNIX, and Sun platform users can all interface with this printer. Due to its specs, this printer was the ideal choice for printing business reports, invoices, and forms, as well as producing direct mail and bar codes.

Kyocera, the manufacturer of this printer, is a global Japanese company offering a variety of products. It describes itself as “the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of advanced ceramics and associated products, including telecommunications equipment, semiconductor packages, and electronic components”.  Originally the Kyoto Ceramic Company, it grew and changed its name to Kyocera in 1982. Its subsidiary, Kyocera Mita, is the actual manufacturer of printers.

Currently, Kyocera Mita offers a line of printers that have grown from the technology used in the FS-3800D. The FS-1100 has a speed of 30 ppm and a duty cycle of 20,000 per month. The FS-1300D also prints at 30 ppm, but has a duty cycle of 25,000 per month. Thirty-two ppm can be had with the FS-1350DN (30,000 per month duty cycle).

The FS-2020D offers a 37 ppm with a 150,000 per month duty cycle. The duty cycle reaches 200,000 per month on the 42 ppm FS-3920DN. The FS-4020DN has a 47 ppm with a duty cycle of 250,000 per month. The page per minute rate on the FS-9130DN is 40 with a duty cycle of 200,000. And, finally, the FS-9530DN has a page per minute rate of 51 with a duty cycle of 300,000 per month.

Kyocera Mita’s printers use a technology called Ecosys. The objective in Ecosys is to have very little impact on the environment by extending the life of the printer’s consumable and lowering the overall cost per print. This is achieved by designing a drum that is separate from the toner cartridge. In a standard printer, these two are combined and when the toner is depleted, the drum (which has a much longer life) gets replaced needlessly. In a Kyocera printer, the total cost of ownership is less because of this Ecosys technology.

These savings extend to replacing the Kyocera FS-3800D toner.  Using quality Kyocera toner ensures gorgeous prints, page after page.  Replacement toner is inexpensive and received quickly by the use of online merchants.  Overall better for the environment, choosing the Kyocera FS-3800D is a great decision!
