Conditions
For you to be able to submit your application completely by mail, there are some rules that apply. First, you must be able to present undamaged, original documents when you send the application. Also, if you need a foreign visa in four weeks, you will have to pay the extra fee. You should be sure to write the word ‘expedite’ across the front of you envelope. You will also have extra overnight charges for both sending and receiving.
Appearance Required
If, when you plan your trip, you see you will be leaving in less than fourteen days or if you need a foreign visa within four weeks, you will have to apply in person and will also have to pay a much higher fee. You must have all documents needed at the time of application to get it within this time frame. You will have to go to a local passport office to do this.
Name Change
For a name change due to a court order or marriage, you must officially change it on your document. To do this, you will need a copy of the court order or marriage license, whichever applies. You will need your original passport, a certified copy or original of the name change documentation, the appropriate form and a color picture. There is no charge for this service. Errors
Changes that are due to error can be corrected at any time using appropriate forms. There is no charge for these changes. These include things like typos and errors in listing date of birth. It is a simple matter to send the proper form and get the corrections made.
Mailing
You may have many occasions to make corrections or additions to your documents. This entails sending originals or certified documents, all in undamaged condition. To make sure of this, don’t fold them and enclose them in a large envelope to keep them flat and protected.
